Position Purpose: Direct the operation of the produce department, including supervising and training personnel. Ensure customer service and product quality, freshness, safety and selection.
Key Responsibilities
Champion customer service programs to meet or exceed division goals.
Supervise day‑to‑day produce functions to achieve service, sales, profit objectives.
Hire, motivate, direct, train and evaluate produce personnel. Monitor performance and recommend personnel actions. Schedule personnel to ensure adequate coverage.
Conduct daily inspections of produce sections and initiate corrective measures to maintain freshness and quality. Rotate products, discard outdated or spoiled product and maintain sanitation and safety requirements.
Assist with all produce duties: receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, watering and displaying.
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays. Control shrink and expenses. Accurately complete and monitor daily log sheet, purchase report, and sales, labor and other required paperwork and logs. Maintain records on ad items movement.
Order, check, receive and control inventory to ensure adequate product quality, eye appeal and freshness. Periodically inventory and maintain accurate department records.
Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of sales floor, cooler, equipment, wet boxes and cases.
Assist customers by making product suggestions and engage in suggestive selling. Make intercom announcements.
Assist with answering and responding to incoming calls appropriately. Receive and resolve customer complaints and report to the Store Director as appropriate.
Assist with implementing emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.
Ensure all associates are trained and instructed in the proper performance of work duties. Monitor associate performance and report observations to the Store Director.
Maintain confidentiality regarding associates, store sales and other company information.
Perform all job duties safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity.

Skills And Physical Requirements
Knowledge of all produce duties including trimming, cutting, displaying, watering, building displays, rotating and discarding outdated or spoiled product.
Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage people and maintain composure when dealing with customers and co‑workers.
Knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices.
Understanding of overall company practices, produce policies and procedures. Ability to judge and react to business activity.
Knowledge of produce variety, standards, perishability, food safety, food handling and sanitation procedures.
Frequently lift, stack and maneuver objects up to approximately 75 lbs. Bend, stoop and reach frequently and occasionally climb ladders. Push and pull fully loaded hand trucks, six‑wheel carts and pallet jacks. Perform repetitious arm movement to prepare and package products.
Manual dexterity and good eye‑hand coordination are necessary.
Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products, plan sales, input inventory and schedules, and print labels.
Operate scales, wrappers, compactors and garbage disposals. Utilize cleaning supplies, knives and safety cutters. Use latex gloves.
Extensive knowledge of profit and loss statements.
May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Good attendance is required.
Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aids necessary to perform job duties.
Work Environment
Hands are frequently exposed to water, ice and cleaning agents.
Exposure to 35°F while handling products in cold cases and 28°F while handling products in cooler.
Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.

Union and Non-Union The pay range is $17.03 to $24.86 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
