Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team in Wilmington, DE. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to lead complex substation design and EPC projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
In this role, you will manage project scope, schedule, and budget; oversee multi‑disciplinary engineering teams; and serve as a key client liaison. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing substation designs, specifications, and studies, preparing proposals, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in site visits and testing/commissioning activities.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, possess 8+ years of substation engineering experience, and preferably have a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Proficiency with tools such as ETAP, SKM, EMTP, and CDEGS, as well as knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards, is required. Experience with SEL/GE relays, SCADA systems, and renewable energy projects is a plus.

Job Function
Develop project plans, including scope of work and WBS for complex, multi‑discipline substation engineering and EPC projects.
Manage substation project execution, including scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
Effectively track and stabilize projects, implement solutions to obstacles, and ensure client goals are achieved.
Attend client meetings and communicate concerns or changes to maintain relationships.
Prepare and review preliminary designs and proposals, including budgetary estimates.
Lead the development of plans, specifications, studies, estimates, material lists, and other deliverables.
Ensure team adherence to QA/QC programs.
Prepare job postings, conduct interviews, hire, onboard, train, and mentor engineers.
Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Perform project‑related preliminary and pre‑commissioning inspection site visits across North America.
Read, interpret, and review technical drawings, schematics, isometrics, and system operating procedures.
Develop and review bidding and construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
Apply engineering principles to research, design, and evaluate products and systems, generating technical reports.
Confer with the design team to incorporate client standards into construction documents.
Prepare and review technical reports and correspondence for project designs and studies.
Drive safety initiatives and maintain operational efficiency.
Prepare, review, and monitor complex schedules to ensure timely completion of project work.
Review testing and commissioning reports of substation equipment, protection, and SCADA communication relays.
Engage in business development efforts and prepare responses to RFPs.
Education and Experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation electrical, physical, protection, control, and SCADA communication engineering within the power industry and professional services for greenfield and brownfield substations.
A Professional Engineering License in Power is preferred.
Proficiency with engineering studies software such as ETAP, EMTP, SKM, CDEGS/WinIGS, Microsoft Suite, AI tools, etc.
Experience reviewing electrical, protection, control, and SCADA communication schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
Experience with SEL/GE relays, relay settings, system studies (arc flash, short circuit, coordination), and engineering studies such as grounding analysis, transient studies, conduit, cable voltage drop, lighting, lightning, AC/DC system sizing, and equipment sizing.
Experience in testing and commissioning of equipment and relays is preferred.
Experience in renewable energy (PV, wind, and BESS) is preferred.
Experience with 3D substation design is preferred.
Experience leading FAT and SAT for control houses, switchgear houses, and transformers is preferred.
Proficiency in engineering standards such as IEEE, NESC, NEC, OSHA, etc.
Proficiency with project management, resource management, and financial analysis tools.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory, and leadership skills.
