Staff Hardware Systems Engineer

AEye, Inc. is seeking a Staff Hardware Systems Engineer to design and enhance cutting‑edge MEMS‑based scanning LiDAR systems. The role involves all aspects of hardware development, testing, validation, and cross‑functional collaboration with optics, mechanical, laser, quality, test, and manufacturing engineers to deliver high‑performance LiDAR modules and integrate them into automotive platforms. Pay Range

$165,000.00/yr – $185,000.00/yr Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement test systems for receiver (imager) hardware and optics, define test metrics, and conduct failure analysis. Develop laser test systems to improve IQC and efficiency through automation of testing and data collection. Design custom mechanical assembly solutions for test systems and product improvement. Program test stations and develop test programs supporting Tier 1 partner production lines. Lead comprehensive module validation and development through EV, DV, and PV phases. Write test software for automated data collection and analysis. Coordinate data collection, analyze results, and present findings to the team. Develop verification procedures and test infrastructure to characterize modules and complete DV testing. Synthesize test results and collaborate with development engineers on design improvements. Produce technical reports, proposals, and presentations, and lead technical development projects. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Essential Skills & Experience

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with 5+ years of hands‑on experience. Proficient in C/C++ and Python programming. Hands‑on experience testing hardware and interfacing with lab test equipment. Familiarity with Linux OS and development tools. Experience with imaging systems, lenses, detectors, and image evaluation. Experience with motion control and automation programming. Experience with lasers and fiber optics. Preferred Skills & Experience

Understanding of optics and fiber optics. Understanding of cameras, image sensors, and qualification. Understanding of lasers. Understanding of temperature chambers. Experience with Jira and version control tools (Bitbucket, GitHub). Experience with radar/LiDAR systems. Location: Pleasanton, CA. This position requires on‑site presence 3–5 days per week depending on workload and testing schedule.
