Irvine, CA
for an onsite environment.
Title:
Hardware Systems Engineer
Compensation:
$65-$85/hour (flexible, DOE)
Type:
6+ Month Contract, possibility to convert FTE
Key Responsibilities System Characterization & Validation Collaborate with hardware architecture, hardware design, and software engineering teams to develop comprehensive performance characterization and validation plans. Identify system bottlenecks, over-/under-design scenarios, and validate system performance against defined requirements.
Hardware Integration & Automation Lead the design, integration, and automation of test environments for performance characterization. Work across early prototype boards, subsystem mock-ups, lab vehicles, and HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) setups to measure real-world system performance.
Implementation & Data Infrastructure Own the end-to-end implementation of performance characterization workflows, including hardware/software integration, data acquisition, and automation pipelines. Develop tools and frameworks for data collection, processing, and visualization to enable data-driven architectural decisions.
Analysis & Reporting Execute detailed performance characterization plans, analyze test results, and present validation metrics through technical reports and visual dashboards. Provide actionable insights that guide system design choices and validate architectural improvements.
Prototype Development & Research Contribute to prototype development for evaluating emerging technologies and establishing proof-of-concept systems. Support next-generation platform studies, system integration exercises, and architectural benchmarking.
Basic Qualifications Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in
Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science , or a related field. 2+ years of hands‑on experience in
embedded systems design, validation, or performance characterization , including internships or research projects. Understanding of
embedded computing architectures , including processors, memory, storage systems, and peripheral interfaces. Experience in
embedded software development ,
platform bring‑up , or
hardware performance instrumentation . Proficiency in
Python, MATLAB , or similar tools for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization. Working knowledge of
low‑power embedded architectures , including wake propagation, power sequencing, and state management. Familiarity with
automotive communication and peripheral interfaces , such as PCIe, GMSL, Ethernet, A2B, and CAN‑FD. Experience with
performance measurement
across software platforms ranging from
bare‑metal
to
RTOS
and
embedded Linux . Awareness of
camera sensors ,
ISPs , and
DSP pipelines , and understanding of related data formats and performance metrics.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with
distributed embedded architectures
in industries such as
automotive, aerospace, or robotics . Hands‑on work with
hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL)
or other real‑time validation setups. Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into meaningful engineering insights. Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and fast‑paced development environments.
