Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and includes a recruitment incentive (sign‑on bonus). Eligible applicants must submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The announcement is open continuously until December 15, 2025, or until positions are filled.

Recruitment Incentive

Authorized sign‑on bonus.

EDRP award up to $200,000, award amount and eligibility period determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services.

Pay and Benefits

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.

50–55 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, plus possible 5 days paid absence for CME).

Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contributions.

No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

Licensure and CME

One full and unrestricted license from any US state or territory.

Possible $1,000 per year CME reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).

Responsibilities

Provide outpatient primary care to veterans enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration’s STVHCS.

Manage a panel of patients in partnership with the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Panel size determined by VHA guidelines and patient complexity.

Implement the PACT model: a patient‑driven, team‑based approach that coordinates care through an interdisciplinary team (PCP, RN care manager, LVN, clerical associate and other clinical services).

Maintain a strong patient relationship while encouraging veteran participation in health decisions.

Work Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship (non‑citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited). All applicable background, security, and medical investigations must be complete.

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

MAP (mandatory influenza vaccination for all VA health‑care personnel).

Pre‑employment physical examination and drug‑free urinalysis (recall refusal results in denial).

Driver’s license or state‑issued identification must be REAL ID compliant (effective May 7, 2025).

Completion of all application requirements (see “Required Documents” section of the announcement).

Qualifications

United States citizenship (non‑citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited).

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved U.S. medical school.

Current, full and unrestricted medical license.

Residency training in an accredited core specialty (ACGME or AOA) leading to board certification. VA may require board certification for faculty status.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience

Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

Recent primary‑care experience.

Experience with Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense.

Women's health experience.

Physical Requirements

Light lifting up to 15 pounds, light carrying up to 15 pounds, use of fingers, walking and standing for 4 hours.

Near vision correctable at 13‑16 in to Jaeger 1‑4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other.

Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors.

Education and Residency Training (Additional Information)

Schools of medicine accredited by the LCME for the year granted or schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the AOA Commission for the year granted.

Foreign medical graduates must verify ECFMG certification (or confirm medical school meets ECFMG eligibility).

Under‑Secretary of Health may approve appointment under authority 38 U.S.C. 7405 for physicians not meeting above criteria if they are to serve research, academic, or administrative positions with no patient‑care responsibilities.
