Preschool Afternoon Teacher (Part-Time, 2-6 pm)
Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co‑educational preschool through eighth grade serving over 460 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Spanning two campuses, it is a vibrant learning community that values constructivist teaching and encourages children to engage deeply with complex topics.
Reporting to the Afternoon Coordinator and Early Childhood Program Director, the Teacher will assist afternoon teachers in delivering a developmentally appropriate preschool program for 3‑5‑year‑olds. Full‑time summer work may also be available.
Responsibilities
Collaborate, problem‑solve, and communicate with teaching team members and the Coordinator. Assist in planning and implementing an exciting, challenging, child‑centered curriculum. Encourage children to take initiative, solve problems, pursue interests, ask questions, and meet individual needs. Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment that nurtures children and families and collaborate with families toward their child’s success. Ideal Candidate
Demonstrates initiative, passion, and effective collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents. Applies understanding of developmental stages when observing and working with individual children. Models language and behavior that supports CDS’s mission and program. Shows excellent rapport with children and families and handles difficult communication through the Coordinator. Passion for learning and commitment to personal‑professional growth. Maintains classroom, storage areas, bathrooms, and outside areas neat and orderly. Works effectively with a diverse community of children, families, and staff. Proficient with technology (email, word processing, photos, etc.) and comfortable with basic bookkeeping. Requirements
Current or working toward a degree in early childhood education or related field. At least 12 ECE units required. Experience working with 3‑5‑year‑olds. Ability to lift 40 lbs. Authorization to work in the U.S. Schedule:
Monday‑Friday 2 pm – 6 pm. Available during the school year, breaks, and camps as needed. Compensation:
Hourly rate $24.25‑$29.00, based on education and experience. Clearances:
