What To Expect You will be a key member of the infrastructure team, leading the design and engineering of Tesla’s most advanced infrastructure on Earth, delivering at record speed. This position demands exceptional organizational skills to synthesize complex, ambiguous requirements into clear scopes and inputs that infrastructure engineering and construction teams can readily execute. You will foster collaboration across IT, manufacturing, industrial engineering, infrastructure engineering, and construction teams to ensure launch plans are well‑defined and delivered against aggressive program goals. You will lead technical deep dives into facility layout designs and infrastructure system options, while ensuring all development aligns with Tesla's core principles. Additionally, you will identify program dependencies, risks, and gaps in information, distilling complex data into actionable messages and plans. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels, from senior leaders to junior staff, to advance project objectives.
What You'll Do
Lead the full design and engineering of Tesla facilities from concept through production launch, ensuring alignment with aggressive program objectives
Gather and develop a deep understanding of stakeholder requirements to synthesize complex inputs into actionable engineering scopes and priorities
Develop comprehensive engineering project plans, secure leadership alignment, and communicate infrastructure design scope effectively to engineering teams
Drive the formation of internal and external engineering teams, including managing third‑party consultant contracts, budgets, and innovative design strategies
Own the execution of high‑quality engineering deliverables (e.g., IFC) essential for procurement, costing, permitting, and construction activities
Develop and own detailed engineering program schedules, while proactively identifying and mitigating dependencies, risks, and gaps
Lead technical deep dives, process safety studies, options analysis, feasibility exercises, and value engineering to support informed decision‑making
Own cross‑functional design reviews (2D and 3D) and engineering management of change for the program
Support funding requests, construction administration, and project status reporting on progress, actions, and risks
Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement in factory engineering development and drive their implementation
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, civil, mechanical, process/chemical, structural, or electrical engineering or equivalent experience
Experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams within Architectural/Engineering firms or design‑build firms
Experience leading engineering for complex infrastructure (i.e., Manufacturing, Semiconductor, Data Center, Central Plant systems) is a major plus
Full understanding of all engineering disciplines and ability to demonstrate skills to manage engineering resources
Proven record in delivery of IFB, IFP and IFC packages
Excellent communication skills with ability to understand complex topics/problems and distill the message clearly
Design‑build and Pre‑Construction Project Management experience is a plus
