Senior System Engineer and Tester

PlanIT Group is seeking a Senior System Engineer and Tester to support our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will conduct technology evaluations assessing the feasibility of proposed concepts, develop requirements documents and statements‑of‑work to support the internal customers’ business needs, design and implement efficient technical solutions, evaluate, test, and certify all software and hardware technologies prior to pilot and production release, provide maintenance support including managing on‑going changes and/or enhancements throughout the life of the system, and develop short‑ and long‑term technology plans driven by the internal customers’ business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the systems development life cycle (SDLC) process including business needs analysis, requirement gathering, information systems architecture, design, integration, implementation, quality assurance, deployment, and production maintenance.
  • Create and maintain project plans and schedules, set milestones, assign resources, and identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful execution.
  • Coordinate major releases with local and remote deployment support teams and brief customer representatives on new features and changes.
  • Interface with customer groups to understand business needs and gather effective requirements.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, procedures, and schedules for completing systems and coordinate integrated testing activities.
  • Conduct software inspection, testing, verification, and validation to ensure that systems meet acceptable reliability standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of thirteen (13) years of relevant experience in systems engineering and software testing.
  • A degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is preferred; four (4) additional years of experience in lieu of a college degree is required.
  • Proficiency with SQL/Oracle SQL Developer and experience in developing software requirements and quality assurance in a software development environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance and pass a client‑mandated clearance process including drug screening, criminal history check, and credit check.
  • All candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident, have lived in the United States for the past five years, and have no more than six months of travel outside the United States within the last five years.

  • Public Trust Clearance is required.
  • Full background screening (drug screening, criminal history check, credit check) is mandatory.
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency is required.
