Overview
Technical Lead - Embedded Systems Security Engineer role at L3Harris Technologies. This position is part of the IC5S team focused on secure communications systems for mission-critical space, ground, air, and naval operations. The Embedded Systems Security Engineer is a Systems Engineer who is also a subject matter expert in developing systems and equipment that protect classified National Security information. The role requires applying security and cryptography expertise across the Systems Engineering process to develop and certify National Security systems on time and within budget with low residual risk. Essential Functions / Responsibilities
The Embedded Systems Security Engineer will: Perform Concept of Operations development, requirements decomposition/synthesis, architecture development and analysis, and security test planning and execution within the Security Engineering context. Leverage Systems Engineering experience in the design, development, and test of Information Assurance solutions for Defense and Intelligence community customers. Act as a single Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Systems Lead for Information Assurance, Security, and Cryptography. Develop security architectures and make design trade-offs to protect system security. Negotiate security requirements with NSA Technical Evaluators and work with NSA TSRD, IASRD, and FSDA requirements and processes. Support the development of NSA Security Evaluation Documents (SED) and related CDRLs; work on multiple programs as needed. Demonstrate proficiency in Python scripting for test automation, diagnostics, and system-level debugging in embedded environments. Demonstrate experience with Type 1, Suite A/B cryptographic algorithms and PKI, TLS, and certificate/key management. Travel up to 10% of the time as required. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (Master’s degree highly desired). At least 10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering for embedded or secure communication systems. Active U.S. Government security clearance (DOD SECRET minimum). End-to-end understanding of the systems engineering process from concept through testing, including Architecture Development, Functional Analysis, Requirements Allocation & Traceability, Trade-off Studies, System Synthesis and Evaluation. Hands-on experience with systems integration and verification testing (right side of the V-model). Proficiency in Python for test automation and debugging in embedded environments. Proven track record in architecture, design, analysis, integration, and test of NSA Approved Type 1 Certified systems or equipment. Ability to serve as SME and Systems Lead for Information Assurance, Security, and Cryptography. Strong security architecture development skills with the ability to make complex trade-offs. Experience negotiating security requirements with NSA evaluators. Experience with NSA TSRD, IASRD, and FSDA processes and NSA SED development. Knowledge of Type 1, Suite A/B, and Commercial Cryptographic algorithms; PKI including TLS and certificate management. Willingness to travel up to 10% of time. Preferred Additional Skills
Understanding of Key Management Systems including EKMS and KMI in End Cryptographic Units (ECUs). Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience. Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler for architecture, design, and requirements traceability. Experience with Cybersecurity and Risk Management Framework concepts. Cybersecurity Credential (e.g., CISSP). Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating across teams and communicating changes. Salary & Benefits
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range is $137,000 - $253,000. This range is not a guarantee of compensation and final offer amount may vary based on experience and geographic location.
