Job Overview The Senior Data Architect will lead design, governance, and delivery of Big Data Architecture within GSK’s Onyx Research Data ecosystem. The role is a key partner with data platform teams, data engineers, and business stakeholders to build a Data Mesh/Data Fabric architecture that accelerates scientific discovery and insight generation.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with data platform teams, data engineers, and architects to define, govern, and evolve data architecture principles, standards, and guidelines.

Produce conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support fit‑for‑purpose data products and enable end‑to‑end data services.

Define data pipeline architecture patterns aligned with Data Mesh/Data Fabric on target platform stacks (Azure or GCP).

Partner with data engineers, data testers, AI/ML specialists, and product stakeholders to drive the data and analytics strategy across scientific and life‑sciences domains.

Build enterprise‑wide data architecture that spans business areas, promotes interoperability, and embeds security‑first design.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation.

Maintain best practices for data architecture on the knowledge‑management platform (Confluence) and support data Mesh best‑practice adoption across GSK.

Drive proactive engagement in experimentation and innovation to deliver data solutions that accelerate medical discovery.

Serve as subject‑matter expert on architecture and engineering topics for GSK FTEs, strategic partners, and software vendors.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or related discipline.

7+ years of experience in data architecture or data engineering in pharma, healthcare, or life‑sciences R&D.

5+ years of experience defining architecture standards and patterns on big data platforms.

5+ years of experience with data warehouse, data lake, and enterprise big data platforms.

5+ years of experience with enterprise cloud data architecture (preferably Azure or GCP) and delivering solutions at scale.

5+ years of hands‑on relational, dimensional, and analytical experience (RDBMS, dimensional, NoSQL, ETL, data ingestion protocols).

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience; advanced degree preferred.

Experience with Azure or GCP data and analytics stack (Spark, Databricks, Data Factory, SQL DW, Cosmos DB, Power BI, Dataflow, Dataproc, etc.).

Experience integrating and supporting enterprise data tools (Ataccama, Talend, Collibra, Snowflake, StreamSets, etc.).

Experience with Agile delivery frameworks and tools (SAFe, Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).

Experience applying CI/CD principles to data solutions.

Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits US annual base salary:

$138,600 – $231,000 (range based on location, education, and market rate) Bonus:

Annual cash bonus and eligibility for share‑based long‑term incentive program (dependent on role level) Benefits:
