Overview

Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12 month, full-time position as Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services. The Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services (SAASS), under the supervision of the Director of Athletics & Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Development, is responsible for the overall academic success and retention of student-athletes participating in Manhattan University’s 19 Division I intercollegiate athletics teams. The SAASS provides guidance and counseling, monitors academic progress and eligibility, and focuses on the overall well-being of all student-athletes. This is an in-person on-campus position.

Responsibilities

Supervises the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Academic Success Services.

Oversees the academic progress from matriculation to graduation of all student-athletes. Distributes reports to coaches, support staff and various academic and athletic administrators regarding the academic progress of assigned student-athletes. Supports Manhattan University\'s commitment to athletics, academics, personal growth, service, and career enhancement.

Coordinates with Academic Advisors, Assistant Deans and Athletic Department to assist student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives, progress toward degree, and NCAA eligibility requirements.

Works with campus personnel regarding transition to college issues, career development issues, and resources available through such services as the Counseling Center and the Specialized Resource Center.

Develops, implements, and monitors intervention programs to enhance the development of time management and study skills for student-athletes. Mentors academically at-risk student-athletes and determines appropriate intervention strategies.

Conducts weekly or bi-weekly meetings with at-risk student-athletes.

Facilitates the student-athlete Study Hall Program and defines its policies and procedures; continually evaluates student-athletes\' grades and course progress to identify those who would be required to complete weekly study hall; monitors study hall attendance and hours of operation; organizes weekly reports for Coaches and Sport Administrators; longitudinally tracks grade averages to monitor impact on learning outcomes.

Maintains appropriate documentation to verify compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University policies; represents Manhattan University with honesty, integrity, and professionalism; promotes an atmosphere of compliance by maintaining knowledge of NCAA/MAAC rules and regulations.

Works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Academic Success, Athletic Director, Athletic Administration, NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative, faculty, and coaches to provide guidance and academic support for student-athletes.

Assists with student-athlete recruitment (review prospective admissions materials, meet with prospective student-athletes to discuss academic programs and academic success services, evaluate and conduct interviews with prospective men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes).

Designs, facilitates, and evaluates the Jasper Jumpstart Orientation Program for all incoming student-athletes (focus on skills needed for college success; analyze feedback to improve the program; provide knowledge of campus offices and resources).

Coordinates all academic intervention and academic success services (refer students to tutoring sessions and writing center; hire, train, and oversee tutors for student-athletes when funding allows; hire, train, and oversee Learning Specialists and the SAASS staff).

Regularly collect and analyze data from all programs to strategically enhance student-athlete development.

Maintain social media accounts (Twitter & Instagram) to inform student-athletes about important dates and campus-wide information.

Coordinate and proctor make-up exams with student-athletes and faculty.

Represent Manhattan University at academic and athletic conferences as appropriate.

Occasional travel with teams to ensure adequate time is allocated to academic coursework.

Qualifications

Master\'s Degree required

Working knowledge of NCAA athletic eligibility regulations, commitment to academic integrity, and compliance with Manhattan University, MAAC conference, and NCAA regulations

Effective organizational skills, strong listening and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse educational and social backgrounds

Maintain a working knowledge of the NCAA and MAAC Conference rules and regulations and Manhattan University policies; operate within department guidelines to ensure compliance with NCAA/MAAC rules

Three (or more) years’ experience required

Working knowledge of Banner

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
