Position:
Electrical Systems Architect, Unmanned Aircraft
Location:
Irvine, Ca On‑site Required
Responsibilities
10+ years professional experience as an aircraft system architect
Leads the development of top‑level electrical system architecture for UAS platforms, from concept to integration
Serve as technical lead and design authority for electrical subsystems, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and customer requirements
Conduct trade studies to evaluate component options and system‑level impacts; make data‑driven architecture decisions
Define and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and specify subsystem requirements to ensure seamless compatibility and performance
Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems teams to ensure electrical system integrity across the entire product lifecycle
Guide efforts in electrical integration, testing, and validation of UAS systems
Mentor junior electrical engineers and foster a culture of technical rigor and innovation within the engineering team
Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies, documentation practices, and system‑level engineering processes
Required Skills / Qualifications
Demonstrated capability in high‑level architecture development for UAS or airborne platforms
Advanced expertise in electrical engineering, including circuit design, power electronics, embedded systems, and signal integrity
Proven experience in developing and maintaining ICDs and defining electrical subsystem requirements
Strong background in trade study execution and component evaluation for system optimization
Experience supporting troubleshooting and root cause investigations in complex systems
Significant background in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Airborne ISR, or low‑cost expendable aircraft design
Background in regulated industries such as Aerospace, Defense, or Government contracting
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
Experience in production/factory environments, including DFM/DFA and documentation for manufacturing
Strong collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Experience developing embedded software
Experience in DoD or defense program environments (SBIR/STTR, classified programs, etc.)
Familiarity with system safety, EMI/EMC compliance, and environmental qualification testing
Previous leadership or principal‑level roles in cross‑functional system architecture efforts
Education
Bachelors degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

Working Conditions The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment or warehouse.
Physical Demands
Must have the ability to stand, climb, occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine
Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work
May be performing physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors
Other Requirements:
It is an essential requirement for the person in this role to have a legal right to work in the United States and be eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and DoD Clearance.
Salary:
$120,000 - $205,000 annually
