Substation Designer – Actalent

As an engineering technician within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, you will be responsible for modifying or creating design deliverables and performing assignments of a design nature. You will apply basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts, providing technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals.
Responsibilities
Proactively provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of engineering standards, systems, and document control.
Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
Promote quality within the project/group/section by reviewing design inputs for consistency and ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards.
Apply basic engineering principles in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
Make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation, providing technical guidance as needed.
Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, and estimates.
Use advanced applications such as modeling and design software for work performance.
Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers, and communicate these to project team members.
Contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, and technology by developing and communicating design standards and process improvements.
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineering technicians.
Assist in monitoring staffing levels and resource needs for projects.
Essential Skills
Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology is preferred.
Proficient communication skills.
Problem‑solving abilities.
Time management skills.
Drive for results.
Intermediate knowledge of engineering calculations and design principles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS).
Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.
Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
Work Environment The role requires the use of electronic applications and programs such as CADD and other information modeling and document storage systems. You will work in a collaborative environment, coordinating with other design group personnel. The position may involve occasional field activities and support.
Pay And Benefits Pay range: $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
