Mechanical Engineering Consultant 2 (Power Uprates) - Nuclear
Join Sargent & Lundy to support major power uprates in the nuclear industry. This role is based at our Peachtree Corners, GA office with a hybrid schedule of 3 days in‑office per week. Responsibilities
Provide consulting level expertise on nuclear power uprates. Lead technical discussions and present project status to clients and internal teams. Develop engineering proposals, cost estimates, and resource load plans. Perform technical reviews of heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, and plant safety hazards. Evaluate equipment sizing, optimization, and selection to support the proposed uprate. Review vendor bids and conduct document reviews ensuring equipment compliance. Mentor junior engineering staff on technical tasks. Conduct independent reviews of work, including calculations and drawings. Attend client meetings and site walk‑downs to verify scope and client satisfaction. Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑approved program. 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry. Experience with nuclear power uprates and turbine retrofit projects. Strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics. Excellent technical report writing and numerical computation skills. Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to nuclear power plant design. Proficiency in MS Office applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Essential Skills and Experience
