Summary:

The manufacturing engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective machining processes in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Must take necessary action to minimize delay time and maximize production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  1. Work as part of a team to determine the optimum machining processes on new parts considering part drawing requirements, customer engineering and quality requirements, preliminary quoted process, launch timing requirements, capital equipment and tooling needs, etc.
  2. Develop machining process plan to meet all internal and customer engineering and quality requirements.
  3. Construct manufacturing process documentation needed for start-up and long-term production - including written manufacturing process instructions, operational sketches, changeover instructions, and tooling lists.
  4. Identify capital equipment needs including available in-house and new purchase options.
  5. When new capital equipment is required, research various manufacturers equipment and automation to determine capabilities and obtain quotations.
  6. Purchase equipment and automation as required.
  7. Work with equipment and automation suppliers to install equipment and automation.
  8. Modify/update automation - including program codes, touch up points, etc.
  9. Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of production cells within electronic building layouts.
  10. Collaborate with internal and external tool designers to provide initial work-holding concepts. Participate in regular tool design reviews to ensure designs meet intended requirements.
  11. Research and purchase all required durable and perishable cutting tools.
  12. Construct new CNC programs and set-up sketches for machining processes and make modifications to existing programs as necessary.
  13. Maintain master control of all CMC programs stored on main electronic drive.
  14. Oversee machine set-up during initial launch and process prove out phase.
  15. Monitor initial production results to confirm that all performance targets are met.
  16. Conduct time studies and perishable tool cost analysis.
  17. Process engineering changes as needed.
  18. Carries out process improvement and problem resolution.
  19. Improves manufacturing processes and methods with goal of cost-reductions, quality improvements and increased labor efficiencies.
  20. Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  21. Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  22. Assists multiple departments in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and minor training.
  23. Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning sessions with project team to ensure process flows, process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and control plans are properly developed and implemented.
  24. Represents engineering on cross-functional teams.
  25. Performs miscellaneous work assignments as directed.

Preferred Training:

1. Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field

2. Computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency - 2D & 3D

3. CNC Programming

4. CAD/CAM experience

5. Automation experience
