Staff or Senior Staff Attorney – Workers’ Compensation
Join The Hartford as an in‑house attorney handling a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases before the California Workers’ Compensation Boards in San Francisco, Oakland, and Santa Rosa. Responsibilities
Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and reasoned legal research, and independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs, and facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases. Partner with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for Hartford insureds and provide effective and timely communications, legal advice, and other services to clients. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co‑counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion, and independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions. Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients, participate in Team Huddles, provide in‑house training to junior associates and/or claims partners, and attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise. Qualifications
Note: This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or a Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidate’s experience. Staff Attorney Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases. JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in California. Trial experience is preferred. Positive‑minded and collaborative team‑player attitude; strong legal research and writing skills; solid MS Office proficiency; Lexis Nexis experience is a plus; self‑directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills; strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required. Senior Staff Attorney Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases. JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in California. Trial experience is preferred. Positive‑minded and collaborative team‑player attitude; strong legal research and writing skills; solid MS Office proficiency; Lexis Nexis experience is a plus; self‑directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills; strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required. Compensation
Annualized base pay range: $128,000 – $192,000 (actual base pay may vary). Benefits
