Job Summary

The Car Wash Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction, renovation, expansion, and maintenance projects for car wash facilities in and around Austin. This leadership role ensures that all work is executed safely, on schedule, on budget, and to company standards. The Superintendent will manage subcontractors, coordinate with local agencies, enforce quality control, and serve as the on-site technical and administrative lead.

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Maintenance Oversight

Lead fullsite construction or renovation of car wash projects-from groundbreaking through final punch list.

Direct maintenance, repair, and upgrade work on existing car wash sites.

Interpret plans, drawings, and specifications; ensure field staff and subcontractors follow them precisely.

Coordinate utility connections, site grading, drainage, plumbing, electrical, structural, and mechanical work.

Monitor equipment installation (wash systems, conveyors, water treatment systems, chemical systems).

Project Management & Scheduling

Develop and maintain project schedules, including milestone tracking, sequencing of tasks, and resource allocation.

Track budgets and issue change orders as necessary.

Report regularly on progress, risks, and costs to upper management.

Forecast labor, materials, and subcontractor needs.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

Solicit, evaluate, and manage subcontractor bids and contracts.

Oversee subcontractor work performance, enforce safety standards, and ensure adherence to quality.

Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for materials, equipment, parts, and chemical systems.

Compliance, Safety & Quality Control

Enforce OSHA standards, local building codes, environmental regulations, and company safety policies.

Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks.

Perform quality inspections at various phases (foundation, structure, finishes, systems integration).

Document deviations, remediate issues, and ensure all work meets company and regulatory specifications.

Communication & Stakeholder Liaison

Act as the on-site contact for architects, engineers, inspectors, local authorities, and clients.

Communicate progress, delays, and critical issues to internal stakeholders.

Ensure proper documentation, submittals, permits, and change orders are processed timely.

Represent the company's interests and enforce contractual terms on site.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

Supervise and mentor site foremen, site superintendents, and field personnel.

Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and facilitate training.

Promote a safety-first culture and foster teamwork.

Required Qualifications & Skills

5+ years of superintendent or field management experience in construction, preferably with experience in car wash, industrial, or automotive infrastructure projects.

Strong technical knowledge of civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems, and water treatment processes.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites concurrently.

Excellent scheduling, budgeting, and cost-control skills.

Familiarity with local Austin / Texas building codes, permitting processes, and regulatory agencies.

Strong problem-solving skills, decisiveness, and adaptability.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficient with construction-management software, MS Office (Excel, Word), project scheduling tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera)

Valid driver's license; ability to travel daily across Austin area.

Ability to work outdoors, on foot, in varying weather conditions; ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, walk across uneven terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience specifically in car wash or automotive service facility construction or operations.

Experience with chemical / water treatment systems.

Certification in OSHA, safety training, or project management (e.g. PMP).

Strong network with local contractors, inspectors, vendors in the Austin area.

Working Conditions & Schedule

The role is primarily fieldbased, spending most days on construction or facility sites.

Typical workweek: 50-60 hours, with occasional overtime and weekend oversight as required.

Work in outdoor, variable weather, on uneven terrain, around heavy machinery, in confined spaces.

Must adhere to safety protocols, wear PPE, and follow site-specific rules.
