Qualifications MS or PhD Board eligible with the intent for certification or Board certified by the ABR or ABMP Must be or become registered in Iowa as a Radiation Therapy Physicist Skills in calibration and commissioning of linear accelerators and other radiation sources Perform quality assurance of equipment and treatment plans Implementing new technologies as needed. Strong work ethic and ability to work well in a team environment
MercyOne The Medical Physicist provides safe therapeutic radiological physics to the Radiation Oncology Department; equipment safety, quality patient care and teaching in accordance with standards put forth by regulatory agencies and the medical community. MercyOne Genesis offers SRS, SBRT, IMRT, DIBH, gaiting, SGRT, and 3D Conformal. The Cancer Institute employs 2 linear accelerators; TomoTherapy Hi-Art and Varian TrueBeam. Record and verify is performed through Aria. Eclipse and Tomoplan software is used for planning. Along with participating in treatment procedures, the Medical Physicist will participate in patient-specific QA, chart QA, linear accelerator QA, plan checks, and any additional support needed by our radiation oncologists, dosimetrists and therapists.
The department employs an exceptional team of 2 Physicists, 2 Dosimetrists, 8 Radiation Therapists, 3 RNs, 2 Office Secretaries, 1 Billing and Coding Coordinator, 1 Social Worker and 1 office manager. A team of 2 Radiation Oncologists are on site daily. On average, approximately 35 patients are treated daily on our 2 machines. The team works closely with our colleagues from our growing Medical Oncology group and interdisciplinary team.
