System Software Programmer – Project Lead (RHAPSODY) Location: Columbia, SC – 100% Remote, Monday – Friday (Eastern Standard Time). 12‑month contract with possibility for one‑year extension.

Job Summary Backfill System Software Programmer – Project Lead to support laboratory and disease surveillance integration with eCR and ELR focus, CDC data modernization, and critical system support. 12‑month contract, extension possible.

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, conversion, and maintenance of Rhapsody routes and logic for eCR, ELR, and other public health data interfaces.

Coordinate with IT Section Manager, team leads, vendors, and DPH staff to complete assignments on time, resolve issues, and provide solutions.

Perform code reviews, testing, and post‑implementation support for new routes and processes.

Monitor routes and production processing, automate daily maintenance, troubleshoot, and correct errors.

Advise on monitoring practices, thresholds, and notifications; support Rhapsody upgrades and new environment configuration.

Plan, organize, review, and implement project milestones; communicate progress to management.

Document system architecture and processes; create new routes to handle new data elements and formats for CDC reporting.

Support disease surveillance interfaces and perform code reviews and change implementation in production.

Mentor technical team on advanced topics and best practices.

Qualifications

5+ years of RHAPSODY Integration Engine (v6+)

5+ years of Symphonia Mapping Language (SML)

5+ years of HL7 (v2.3.1 – 2.5.1; ORU & ORM Message Types)

2+ years of XML/XSD/XPPath

3+ years of SQL (advanced join statements)

5+ years of JavaScript (ECMAScript/J4E)

2+ years of Web Services (SOAP)

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

Strong critical thinking, problem resolution, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

Rhapsody Certification

eCR, EICR, RR, CDA, CCDA experience

Windows Server OS Administration (1+ year)

Large‑scale integration and design in healthcare environments

Public Health / Disease Surveillance systems / LIMS experience

Large‑scale dataset manipulation / migration

LOINC / SNOMED knowledge

DevOps / JIRA experience

Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) skills

Visio / flow diagram creation
