Position Summary Radiologic Technologist I, II, III – SFDPH (2471). Permanent Civil Service, variable work hours. This classification provides diagnostic imaging services to the San Francisco community within the SF Health Network.

Role Description Responsibilities include performing general and advanced diagnostic imaging procedures, applying radiation safety principles, patient positioning, image evaluation, documentation, and assisting physicians. Technologists at all levels also provide patient care, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

Perform general diagnostic procedures using fixed or portable, general, digital, fluoroscopic, or other diagnostic equipment.

Apply principles of radiation safety in compliance with federal, state, and departmental standards; use appropriate filters, cones, protective clothing, and devices to obtain high‑quality images with radiation exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable.

Assess general patient condition, including stability, pain, and safety; monitor medical equipment and promptly adjust or report problems.

Document procedures and events in the patient's medical record and departmental logs, identifying images with technologist, date/time, and laterality information.

Transport patients using gurneys, wheelchairs, and beds; transfer patients to and from the exam table.

Schedule procedures and patients; transfer paper orders into an electronic order entry system; produce, process, and collate images and paperwork, and submit them for interpretation; answer departmental telephones; coordinate patient flow.

Perform venipuncture and CPR; assist physicians in preparing and/or administering contrast media, setting up sterile and non‑sterile trays, and providing instruments, medical devices, and supplies as requested.

Train student technologists in diagnostic imaging science and practice.

Participate in departmental quality improvement efforts.

Clean imaging equipment, supplies, and procedure rooms; report failures and problems.

Maintain patient records and data integrity using radiology and hospital IT systems.

Assist physicians and providers in resolving imaging questions or issues.

Qualifications

License & Certification (Level I)

Current California certified radiologic technologist (CRT) license; current ARRT registration; valid fluoroscopy permit issued by the California Department of Health Services; valid CPR certificate from the American Heart Association.

Experience (Level II)

One (1) year of experience as a radiologic technologist; same license, registration, and advanced modality certifications as Level I; valid fluoroscopy permit and CPR certificate.

Experience (Level III)

Three (3) years of experience as a radiologic technologist; same license, registration, and advanced modality certifications as Level II; two (2) advanced modalities; valid fluoroscopy permit and CPR certificate.

One‑year full‑time employment equals 2,000 qualifying work hours.
