Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

Eligible applicants must meet specific VHA policy eligibility requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

The award amount may be up to $200,000 for an eligibility period of one to five years, as determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for a major specialty program or programs at a multiple divisions facility.

The incumbent may be responsible for the Service Line within one or multiple divisions (e.g., Topeka/Leavenworth) and nine community-based outpatient clinics.

The incumbent assumes professional, technical, and administrative responsibilities for programs extended to these areas as assigned.

The incumbent manages and controls the use of data related to these programs regarding day-to-day functioning and program evaluation.

The incumbent has the responsibility for coordinating staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, and criteria for the programs.

Work Schedule Negotiable upon selection.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

All applicants selected for VA employment are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre‑employment requirements.

Effective May 7, 2025, driver’s licenses or state‑issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.

Must pass pre‑employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Qualifications

United States Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believed to have exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.

Physical Requirements Periods of long standing.

Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects.

Long periods of sitting at a computer station.

The need for a high degree of accuracy, potentially stressful situations, and the ability to adapt work plans based on patient status.

Education Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an LCME or AOA accredited institution.

For foreign medical graduates, the applicant must provide an ECFMG certificate or evidence that the medical school meets ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year of graduation.

Benefits
