Overview This is a
promotional opportunity
for current Louisiana Department of Corrections employees with permanent status who are ready to advance in their career. The position provides custody and control of inmates in a penal institution and supervises lower‑level personnel such as Corrections Master Sergeant, Corrections Sergeant, and Corrections Cadet.
Qualifications Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
One year of experience in any field; OR
Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a current driver’s license.
Special Requirements An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge, will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse, engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused, will be disqualified.
Job Duties Serves as a shift supervisor, provides internal security, reviews disciplinary actions against inmates and staff, inspects buildings, equipment, and job sites for compliance with all fire and safety codes.
Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type : Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C – Corrections Services (Adult DOC). The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation : Eligible for a Special Entrance Rate of $23.03 per hour and Premium Pay at a rate between $.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and not the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
Benefits 24‑hour facility, shift work, drug‑free workplace.
