About the Role Koniag Professional Services LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Database Administrator to support KPS and our government customer. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This is a remote opportunity. Koniag Professional Services is supporting the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) in sustaining an integrated Human Capital Management solution that consolidates core HR functions into a unified enterprise platform.

Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.).
Design and implement database architectures that support application A.
Understand existing client database configurations to modify or customize according to technical requirements.
Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability.
Monitor database performance and tune database configurations for optimal efficiency.
Implement and maintain database security controls, including access management and encryption.
Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal disruption to operations.
Perform capacity planning and resource allocation to support current and future database needs.
Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, outages, and other incidents.
Create and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries and procedural documentation.
Develop and implement database high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
Automate routine database administration tasks through scripts and tools.
Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database designs and queries.
Implement data archiving and purging strategies to manage database growth.
Provide technical guidance on database technologies and best practices.
Monitor and maintain database security compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
Qualifications
Prior experience working within the federal government workspace, including familiarity with federal IT environments, compliance standards, and agency-specific processes.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
5+ years of experience in database administration roles.
Strong experience with at least one major database platform (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.).
Demonstrated experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Experience with database backup and recovery operations.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance if required.
Required Skills And Competencies
Expert knowledge of database architecture, design principles, and best practices.
Proficiency with SQL and database programming.
Experience with database performance monitoring and tuning.
Strong understanding of database security principles and implementations.
Knowledge of database backup, recovery, and high availability solutions.
Experience with database patching and upgrade processes.
Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and implement effective solutions.
Experience with database maintenance operations and automation.
Understanding of storage systems and their impact on database performance.
Knowledge of database capacity planning and resource management.
Experience with database clustering technologies and configurations.
Strong problem‑solving skills with ability to work under pressure during critical incidents.
Excellent documentation skills for procedures, configurations, and technical specifications.
Strong communication skills for collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders.
Experience with scripting languages for database administration tasks.
Desired Skills And Competencies
Preferred experience working with data warehouses, supporting Time & Attendance (T&A) systems, Position Description (PD) repositories, and self‑service HR modules within enterprise environments.
Advanced database certifications (Oracle OCP, Microsoft MCDBA, etc.).
Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, etc.).
Knowledge of NoSQL database technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
Experience with data replication and synchronization technologies.
Familiarity with database migration tools and methodologies.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and technologies.
Experience with database virtualization and containerization.
Understanding of DevOps practices related to database management.
Experience with automated database deployment pipelines.
Knowledge of compliance requirements for database security (FISMA, FedRAMP, etc.).
Experience with database auditing and monitoring tools.
