CHARLESGATE
is seeking an energetic Senior Property Accountant with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to join the accounting department for a portfolio of large multi-family units.
The Senior Property Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and provides direction to the Property Accountant. This role has potential for transition to a Property Supervisor role based on performance.
Responsibilities
Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned portfolio of multi-family properties, including journal entries, weekly bank reconciliations, and month‑end close.
Review Balance Sheet and Income Statement to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Maintain accurate tenant ledgers in accordance with company policy and guidance.
Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting packages to clients in a timely manner.
Triage payment of invoices through the payment portal.
Review monthly financial packets prepared by Property Accountants for completeness and accuracy.
Supervise the Property Accountant, providing guidance, training, and support.
Prepare and maintain quarterly workpapers.
Review commercial leases and prepare CAM reconciliations to ensure accurate billings.
Collaborate with the Head of Portfolio to assist in preparing the annual property budgets.
Perform special projects and support accounting and property management teams.
Assist in external audit and lender compliance reporting.
Provide ad‑hoc support as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, minimum GPA 3.0.
5+ years of accounting experience, minimum three years in residential and/or multifamily commercial real estate.
Experience with AppFolio (preferred) or Yardi.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Detail‑oriented and able to handle a large volume of transactions daily.
Ability to collaborate at a high level with internal staff and external providers.
Can work with minimal supervision.
Proficient in remote office tools such as Slack, Google Workspace, or Zoom.
Working Environment
Location: Corporate office in Back Bay, Boston, MA. Minimum in‑office 3 days per week.
Travel outside office is not expected.
