Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. The Department of Molecular Cell Biology II, headed by Prof. Dr. Dorothee Dormann, is part of the Faculty of Biology and associated with the Institute of Molecular Physiology. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with excellent expertise in biochemistry and molecular cell biology to expand the research area of molecular neurodegeneration within the Dormann Lab ( https://www.dormann-lab.de/ ). Comprehensive participation in university teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level Supervision of doctoral, Master’s, and Bachelor’s theses Integration into existing research groups in the Dormann Lab, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of RNA-binding protein dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases Establishment of iPSC cell culture and genetic modifications using CRISPR Active participation in research, international collaborations, and acquisition of third-party funding Leading interdisciplinary research projects, combining tools and approaches from molecular neurodegeneration with those from cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and neurobiology In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate. A successfully completed scientific university degree in biology A doctorate in biochemistry or a related field Post-graduation full-time work experience of at least 2.5 years (additional experience is desirable) Academic teaching in human and cell biology Purification of recombinant proteins Advanced fluorescence microscopy, including super-resolution and live-cell imaging as well as photobleaching techniques Analysis of post-translational modifications and their role in the function of RNA-binding proteins Methods for studying nucleocytoplasmic transport and protein–protein interactions of RNA-binding proteins Methods for analyzing phase separation and aggregation behavior of RNA-binding proteins in neurodegenerative diseases Generation of stable cell lines Proven international research experience and success in acquiring third-party funding Relevant expertise in and strong enthusiasm for molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases Excellent command of German and English (German at C2 level) Publications as first or co-corresponding author in the field of molecular neurodegeneration Experience in independent supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses Desirable Qualifications: Completed habilitation in human biology and/or cell biology Prior experience with iPSC culture and genome editing using CRISPR Experience in developing academic courses (lectures, practicals, seminars, etc.) Languages ENGLISH Level Excellent Languages GERMAN Level Excellent Research Field Chemistry » Biochemistry Years of Research Experience 1 - 4 Additional Information
