Responsibilities A Data Architect at Berkley Technology Services is a visionary who designs and implements cutting‑edge solutions that drive business operations, analytics, and data engineering forward. The role sets the standards and best practices for our data landscape, evaluates top‑tier data‑centric vendors and products, and consults on high‑impact projects as a key member of the WRBC Architecture Community.

Key Functions (but are not limited to)

Technical Strategy Contribute to strategic planning with recommendations on key initiatives and roadmaps. Provide feedback on 3‑5‑year data architecture strategy, develop and maintain a business and technical capability model, and build target and reference architectures for WRB’s multi‑year strategy. Stay informed on industry trends and technologies, and create supporting architecture documentation consistently.

Consulting / Guidance Understand BTS and OU/segment data strategies to provide aligned recommendations. Offer consulting and guidance to development and infrastructure teams, and present recommendations clearly to various audiences, emphasizing capability development.

Leadership Build relationships with business partners and technical groups on data strategy. Lead data architecture projects and manage change effectively. Inspire engagement with WRB’s data and technical strategies.

Patterns and Standards Development Identify and address gaps in data development patterns and standards; research, develop, and promote data design patterns and standards. Evaluate data technologies and tools, including proof‑of‑concept analysis, and contribute to and socialize a catalog of design patterns and standards.

Governance Participate in the architecture review process, rationalize technology and tool recommendations, and advocate for patterns and standards, especially in Infrastructure, Data, and Security.

Community of Practice Engage in the architecture community through forums, standards development, and documentation. Build relationships with business and technical teams and mentor less experienced developers.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related field or equivalent work experience.

8+ years progressive engineering experience developing/engineering solutions and leading multiple large‑scale data‑domain or cross‑domain initiatives.

6+ years hands‑on experience in multiple data domains (data engineering, database administration, business intelligence, data science/AI, data modeling, big data, data security, data quality) leading architecture/development initiatives.

2+ years hands‑on experience working in large‑scale data warehouse/data lake/data lakehouse environments on Teradata, Microsoft, Oracle, or IBM platforms; or 2+ years working with structured and unstructured data within a cloud‑based data environment (Redshift, Data Bricks, Hadoop, Snowflake, Spark, etc.).

2+ years hands‑on experience working on public cloud platforms and architectures (Azure, AWS, GCP).

2+ years hands‑on experience with virtualization and hyper‑convergence approaches (VMWare, Nutanix, etc.).

2+ years hands‑on experience with multiple scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash, Go, Ruby, etc.).

2+ years hands‑on experience with enterprise‑scale data integration tools (Informatica, SSIS, Talend, Kafka, etc.).

2+ years hands‑on experience with business intelligence and/or data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).

2+ years working with third‑party data services.

Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to interact at all levels with both technical and business stakeholders.

Strong customer service focus and sense of urgency.

Superior problem‑solving and analytical skills.

Preferred

4+ years working with data solutions that enable analytics and predictive modeling.

3+ years using Agile development methodologies.

2+ years as a Data Architect.

Practical experience with AI.

Certified in Azure or AWS Cloud architecture.

Work history in the financial services or insurance industries.
