Job Description This position offers remote work flexibility, allowing candidates to work from any location within the United States. The Associate Director Marketing External Engagement and RMM Team Lead reports to the Director of Promotional Medical Education, External Engagement and RMM team. The Associate Director leads the Regional Marketing Manager (RMM) team, overseeing marketing initiatives across various geographic areas and ensuring alignment with the national marketing plans. The position requires deep knowledge of market drivers, competitive landscape, provider and stakeholder dynamics, and the ability to translate local business insights into actionable strategies for optimal brand performance. Responsibilities include building commercial relationships with External Experts, designing impactful promotional strategies, and managing cross‑functional programs such as speaker events and external engagement activities. The role demands proactive problem solving, creative solution development, and strict adherence to AbbVie policies and regulatory standards.
Key Job Responsibilities
Lead the Regional Marketing Manager (RMM) team allocated among specific geographic areas of the country.
Translate local area business needs into local strategies and pull-through of the national strategy at the regional level.
Provide in‑depth insights based on assimilation of key stakeholder feedback; coach and develop RMM team to enhance that skill set.
Identify, build, and strengthen commercial relationships with External Experts (EEs) while supporting the RMM team to identify emerging experts and diversify the KOL base.
Engage with EEs and attend key medical congresses; support identification and coordination of commercial leadership engagements at key conferences.
Develop and lead high‑impact and innovative promotional medical education programs such as national broadcasts and regional specialty programs.
Lead speaker program Annual Operating Plan and effectively track and manage speaker program budget across Compliance, Finance and Sales Leadership as well as the Promotional Medical Education vendor.
Support the HCP team with identification and contracting of HCPs for consulting and ad boards; support execution of ad boards and steering committees; create the Annual Consulting Plan.
Contribute to the development of the annual strategic and tactical plans for promotional medical education and external engagement.
Maintain understanding of disease and competitive marketplace.
Operate in compliance with all AbbVie internal policies and applicable external regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Proven marketing experience with increased proficiency in all marketing skills.
Previous cross‑franchise/cross‑channel marketing experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 7 years of pharmaceutical experience including 2+ years of marketing experience.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to make effective presentations to internal and external customers, sales teams, and senior management.
Proven track record of leadership success with direct people leadership experience required.
Sound analytical skills, financial acumen and previous experience with budget ownership.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with focus, and drive consensus among internal and external stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines, and departments.
Proven project management skills and prioritization among competing business needs.
Self‑starter, intellectually curious, and can change course rapidly where required.
Identifies problems proactively and conceptualizes solutions using creativity and innovation.
Open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement, embraces ideas from others, encourages innovation but is grounded in reality.
Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting pharmaceutical products.
Willingness to travel up to 25%, attending national conferences, sales and marketing meetings and field visits.
Potential pharmaceutical leader who is excellence focused, optimistic, open and authentic.
