Natural Resource Specialist I/II/III (Open and Promotional)

Overview
The Department of Parks is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Natural Resource Specialist I/II/III to join our team! A key part of the Natural Resource Specialist’s role will be to plan and coordinate fuels reduction projects throughout the county park system. Responsibilities
Develop, implement, coordinate, promote, monitor, and evaluate one or more natural resource conservation programs or projects. Serve as subject matter expert on topics related to natural resource management including ecology, forestry, wildlife biology, environmental science, and related topics. Research, analyze, and interpret information and data; design and conduct studies. Conduct comprehensive outreach and public education activities. Provide supervision and leadership on a project basis to professional, technical, support, contract, and volunteer staff. Execute a wide range of tasks including vegetation management, GIS analysis, herbicide application, grant writing, and environmental regulatory compliance. Qualifications
Knowledge of program planning, implementation, evaluation, and contract management. Expertise in wildlife management, forestry, botany, restoration, and marine biology. Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws, codes, and regulations. Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online). Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, permits, and public engagement. Skill/Ability to
Plan, implement and evaluate assigned programs, projects and activities. Coordinate multiple functions and contracts; supervise staff on a project basis. Serve as subject matter expert and represent the department on boards and committees. Prepare comprehensive reports, letters, and other written materials. Track and monitor compliance with pertinent mandates, laws, codes, and regulations. Education and Experience
Potential applicants may qualify based on either educational background or relevant experience: Level I : Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, or related field. Level II : Three years of relevant experience. Level III : Five or more years of journey-level relevant experience. Substitution : Master of Science in a related field plus two years of relevant experience. Licensing
Possession of a valid California Driver's license or equivalent is required. Application Process
