Social Services Professional (SUD Care Coordinator) Join to apply for the Social Services Professional role at King County, WA.

Summary The Jail Health Services Division of Public Health | Seattle & King County seeks two (2) SUD Care Coordinators to join our multidisciplinary health team. The role provides screening, assessment, brief intervention, supportive counseling, and discharge planning to incarcerated adults in the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent. The position prioritizes individuals with lived experience of substance use, incarceration, houselessness, and/or sex work; people of color; women; LGBTQIA+; and those living with HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis C.

Work Schedule 40‑hour work week: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Future program expansion may involve weekend work. This position is non‑exempt and eligible for overtime.

Work Location King County Correctional Facility – 500 5th Ave., Seattle, WA 98104 Regional Justice Center – 401 4th Ave. N., Kent, WA 98032 Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their worksite.

Job Duties

Engage with people who use drugs using a collaborative, person‑centered approach grounded in harm reduction and trauma‑informed practice.

Promote diverse cultural health beliefs and practices; provide language and health literacy support.

Conduct standardized screenings to identify emergent social, physical, and behavioral health needs and determine referrals.

Facilitate access to care, including outreach, screening, assessment, brief intervention, crisis counseling, and psycho‑educational support services.

Share treatment decision‑making with participants regarding in‑jail and in‑community options to treat opioid use disorder.

Advocate for participants while in custody and as they transition back to the community, including enrollment in healthcare coverage, disability‑related benefits, linkage to substance use disorder treatment, and communication with partners in the criminal legal system.

Distribute harm reduction supplies and provide accurate health and safety information on safer drug use and overdose safety planning.

Assist participants as they release from custody with resources, referrals, and scheduling same‑day or next‑day appointments.

Document patient contact and services delivered in the electronic health record system.

Ideal Candidate

Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to honing clinical skills, especially cultural humility, anti‑racist practices, and shared decision making.

Registration as a Substance Use Disorder Professional under WAC 440‑22‑240. SUDPT with all hours and submitted to DOH.

At least two years of recent, relevant work experience with people involved in the criminal legal system within King, Pierce, or Snohomish County, with priority given to those who provide harm reduction and recovery‑related services for people with substance use disorders.

Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge of anti‑racism concepts and approaches.

Knowledge of specific challenges, trauma responses, behaviors, and needs for people experiencing legal involvement, housing instability, poverty, substance use disorder, and mental health diagnoses compounded by discrimination and systemic oppression.

Demonstrated clinical skills in case management, trauma‑informed care, recovery‑oriented concepts, crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, and boundary maintenance.

Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and point‑and‑click software.

Strong communication skills and ability to travel flexibly as needed.

A current BLS for Healthcare Providers with AED certification before hire.

Desired Candidate

Bilingual or bicultural individuals with diverse backgrounds, including people with lived experience in behavioral health and recovery, incarceration, houselessness, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Experience coordinating medical, mental health, substance use, and other social service resources in King County for Medicaid‑eligible adults.

Experience coordinating with the criminal legal system in either King, Pierce, or Snohomish (courts, defense attorneys, prosecution, probation, correctional institutions).
