Job Description This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting a Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 located in the Anchorage Juvenile Probation office on the campus of the McLaughlin Youth Center.

What You Will Be Doing

Monitor, motivate, and supervise a caseload of juvenile offenders to promote accountability, community restoration, and the development of skills for a crime‑free life.

Screen and process juvenile criminal referrals through the early pre‑court services to the court process, providing supervision and case management.

Facilitate communication and service delivery with youth, families, attorneys, courts, service providers, and victims.

Develop case plans in coordination with multiple community agencies and treatment programs, including trauma‑informed services for offenders, families, and victims.

Represent the department in formal court environments, producing petitions, reports, and documents under tight timelines.

The Working Environment You Can Expect The office is co‑located with the McLaughlin Youth Center, a 24‑hour juvenile detention and treatment facility. It serves a broad geographic area and requires occasional weekend coverage and on‑call/standby duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or experience that demonstrates competency in psychology, integrity, interpersonal skills, and adaptability.

Relevant training in juvenile justice, criminal justice, sociology, social work, psychology, or related fields.

Experience in juvenile probation, adult probation, or child protection services, or supervision of juvenile offenders.

Special Note Successful candidates are subject to background investigation, criminal record check, fingerprinting, and medical examination. A valid Alaska driver’s license is required.
