Job Description Summary. Manages respiratory therapy staff and the activities for an assigned department, including patient care, record‑keeping and personnel issues. Serves as a role model for accountability to the units, the patient and the organization. RT Clinical Leads are authorized to access the unit medication rooms or bedside medication drawers in order to retrieve medications they are authorized to administer.

Essential Functions

Oversees staff in documentation, patient care, staffing, and clinical competencies. Serves as a clinical expert for policies, procedures, documentation, and skills.

Assists in the training and development of new and existing staff members, including performance appraisal.

Assists in supervising clinical operations. Explains why clinical and financial management are important to the organization.

Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and reporting important information and updates back to staff.

Maintains safety and quality as priorities, providing auditing and education for safety and quality initiatives.

Ensures regulatory compliance and emergency response preparedness.

Education Requirement Bachelor’s degree, required.

Licensure Requirement Current Ohio license to practice respiratory care, required.

Certifications Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required. Additional credential of NPS strongly encouraged for all inpatient clinical leaders. RPFT and AE‑C are strongly encouraged for outpatient. Current CPR card and dependent on unit of hire, RT will need to obtain and maintain PALS and/or NRP.
