Essential Functions

Collaborates and works cross-functionally with central office departments (academic and non-academic) on initiatives that build support systems that support a culture of rigorous learning with increased outcomes for all students.

Coordinates and manages office administrative tasks including correspondence, leave request department calendars, newsletters, guidance documents and telework schedules.

Reviews and prepares executive summaries of department reports, memoranda, guidance documents; and strategic plans.

Responds to inquiries about problems, issues, program status, or activities and provide reports to the Executive Director for Special Education.

Participates in the planning of administrative, staff development meetings, and departmental meetings.

Collaborates, monitors, and implements procedures for the distribution and use of funds allocated to implement special education, alternative option programs, and services.

Provides advice and assistance in the daily management oversight for the departments within Special Education.

Leads the project management of audits.

Drafts correspondence, executive summaries, and documents presented on behalf of the Executive Director for Special Education to the Board of School Commissioners, CEO, CAO, senior management, and outside interest groups.

Responds to information requests from City Schools' office departments, individual schools, and the public on matters relating to programs, and/or needs.

Reviews management policies and procedures and prepares reports and memoranda documents applicable to academic and non-academic services and programs that relate to students with disabilities.

Assists with planning, organizing, and directing policy and organizational analysis on issues and concerns that may impact City Schools' operations.

Assists in the development and implementation of MSDE plans, Special Education Staffing Plans, City Schools Master Plan, and other strategic program initiatives.

Represents the Executive Director of Special Education at various meetings and conferences as required.

Consults, advises and may provide leadership on behalf of the Executive Director of Special Education to academic programs and/or initiatives being proposed by academic and non-academic departments.

Coordinates involvement in community activities including advisory councils and planning committees.

Meets with and may address a variety of groups, including employees, school administrators, public and private agencies, and community organizations on behalf of the Executive Director for Special Supports director and coordinator-level staff with effective project management.

Keeps abreast of current district, state, and federal policy and/or legislation as it relates to teaching and learning; provides relevant recommendations and/or feedback on policy updates.

Manages strategic hiring process for the Office of Special Education; supports the school-based hiring of key district-managed positions.

Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.

Maintains confidential and sensitive information.

Maximum Salary $161,531.00 Minimum Salary $90,850.00

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($90,850 - 119,435).
