Position Overview The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey, is one of Rutgers University’s largest schools. The school offers 21 undergraduate majors ranging from plant and animal sciences to marine science and oceanography. Posting Summary

Aids students in personal adjustment and transition to the collegiate environment.

Provides orientation to campus culture.

Makes student referrals to appropriate university offices and outside agencies.

Advocates for the EOF program and students.

Initiates programming to enhance student retention in STEM majors.

Provides academic, personal, emotional, financial, and career advisement and facilitates student success workshops and seminars.

Monitors all students’ emotional concerns, employing counseling strategies to promote academic achievement and reduce attrition.

Documents services rendered to students.

Assists program administration with outreach to department and agencies that address emotional well‑being of all students.

Renders a comprehensive network of counseling activities that directly serve the unique needs of the SEBS EOF student population.

Initiates and maintains collaborations with university and outside agencies to promote financial aid awareness, emotional well‑being, and overall student retention.

Develops intervention strategies for college success while serving as part of the Rutgers SEBS and EOF administrative team.

Supports the classroom facilitator/instructor of the first‑year and transfer courses, leads seminar topics, and is a member of the recruitment team.

Navigates all financial aid systems, accurately advising all SEBS EOF students, and supports the Academic and Resident Life components of the Summer Institute Program as supervisor of residence life summer staff.

Coordinates the Residence Life component and contributes to summer academic planning and execution of academic goals.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a STEM field related to SEBS majors, Higher Education Administration, or Student/Academic Affairs with related student development experience in a college setting serving underrepresented college students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with college admissions, financial aid systems, college recruitment, and outreach to students from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Experience in student affairs working with students enrolled in STEM majors.

Strong listening, written, and verbal skills.

Ability to work on group projects and team‑oriented tasks.

Extensive experience with web‑based applications, telework software, and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish (ability to speak, read, and write).
