Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices

Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators and clothing

Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies

Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter

Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions / activities

Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action / s

Investigate accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program / s

May demonstrate use of safety equipment

Ensures compliance with occupational safety and health regulations

Coordinates Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses

Assist with Human Resources with the recruitment / orientation processes

Additional assignments with the Safety Director’s direction

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s Degree of occupational safety / health preferred or equivalent combinations of training and related experience

At least 1 – 2 years of construction and / or industrial safety experience preferred

Safety Certifications : CHST, OHST, CSHO, etc. are highly desirable

Thorough understanding and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company regulations

Knowledge / Skill Requirements

Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measures

Solid training / teaching experience

Must be knowledgeable of Workers’ Compensation laws

High ethical standards

Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

Can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support, etc.) to get things done

Must be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal

Able to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful manner

Be able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of Safety First, Always to the forefront

Physical Requirements

Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person

Able to utilize a computer for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentations

Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, and kneeling are required

Periodic, but extensive walking and standing are required

Must also be able to drive a vehicle and walk on uneven terrain

May require periodic lifting objects up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment

May be exposed to extreme hot, cold and wet weather
