Electronic Resources Manager, University Libraries Boston University Libraries is seeking an Electronic Resources Manager to oversee the licensing, acquisition, discovery, and delivery of the library’s electronic resources, including e‑books, e‑journals, databases, and other digital materials.

Responsibilities

Negotiate electronic resource license agreements and coordinate with the Collections Council to secure favorable terms.

Lead annual reviews of continuing resources, monitor year‑over‑year cost increases, and support collection development with quantitative and qualitative metrics.

Supervise a team of four staff, evaluate performance, provide training, and ensure all work meets best‑practice standards.

Maintain reliable access to electronic resources through systems such as Alma, Primo VE, and EZproxy; triage access issues and resolve service queues.

Collaborate with subject librarians and consortia partners to promote user discovery and access across formats.

Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and library committees to stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in library and information science or related field.

Minimum three years of professional experience managing electronic resources, vendor communication, and license negotiations.

Experience with vendor communication, negotiation, and management of license agreements.

Strong understanding of scholarly electronic resources, including online journals, databases, and e‑books.

Knowledge of standards and tools such as COUNTER, SUSHI, OpenURL link resolvers, EZproxy, and authentication methods such as SSO.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of supervisory experience.

Experience using Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE.

Experience with subscription agents on annual serial renewals.

Familiarity with open‑access and transformative agreements and with data licensing for research.
