Community Engagement Manager – Youth Resource Center, Volunteers of America, Utah
Location: Salt Lake City, UT. Full‑time, Monday–Friday 8 am–4 pm.
Position Summary The Community Engagement Manager leads the Youth Resource Center’s community engagement efforts, managing the engagement team and overseeing volunteer coordination, kitchen operations, and the in‑kind donation room. The manager advocates for YRC volunteers and partners with YRC leadership to align engagement activities with program needs.
Essential Duties
Team Management
– supervise, train, evaluate Community Engagement Coordinators and Kitchen Coordinator; hire and onboard new staff; review timesheets; ensure required trainings; provide coverage during absences; hold regular one‑on‑ones and team meetings; attend YRC meetings.
Program Collaboration
– coordinate volunteer recruitment and onboarding; manage background checks; keep program staff informed of volunteer projects; attend site programming meetings.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
– develop engagement strategies; build and maintain partnerships; represent YRC at events; assist with tours.
Volunteer Management
– recruit, train, retain volunteers; build relationships; support recruitment platforms; ensure compliance documentation; foster collaborative culture.
Kitchen Management
– supervise Kitchen Coordinator; ensure compliance with health regulations; oversee operations, budget, purchasing, inventory; manage permits.
Donation Room Management
– manage in‑kind donation program; oversee donation room; support marketing; audit receipts; monitor inventory; assist deliveries.
Donor Relations
– track partner and donor interactions; solicit contributions; align development efforts.
Secondary Duties
Support volunteer appreciation initiatives and events.
Assist the External Relations Team with donor events.
Coordinate flexible scheduling for the engagement team.
Perform other functions as necessary.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum 2 years of social services or homelessness‑related experience, or 1–2 years of nonprofit or volunteer management experience.
Supervisory experience in a nonprofit setting.
Strong public speaking, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
Driving required: at least 21 years of age, current driver’s license, good driving record.
Must pass Utah‑DHHS licensing background screening and pre‑employment drug screen.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry up to 50 lb.
Stand, walk, sit for extended periods; use computer regularly.
Occasional travel to community events and partners.
