The Agile Product Owner in the Middle and Large Business Transformation Office will positively impact Product, Underwriting Excellence, Data, Digital and AI value streams to deliver better outcomes for our shareholders, customers, and employees. They will collaborate closely with internal customers and stakeholders to contribute and deliver high business value strategic investments and enhancements on the Product Roadmap.
They will collaborate cross‑functionally with business leaders and experts to define and evolve strategies, prioritize investments, and lead agile execution teams spanning change management, actuarial, product, underwriting, operations, architectural, and technology dimensions. They will take a product ownership perspective—using data and insights—to prioritize and drive capabilities with a clear focus on customer and business outcomes.

Responsibilities
Flexibility to work on Saturdays occasionally for Production releases.
Lead product execution for 1‑2 agile scrum IT teams by ensuring that the development team understands backlog items and their business value.
Articulate, own, and execute on the product vision and product roadmap.
Manage the Product Backlog, including prioritization of stories to maximize business value.
Convey the strategy/roadmap and can clearly articulate direction to the working team.
Refine user stories including user story acceptance criteria and accepting the completed work.
Showcase completed work during sprint reviews.
Partner with the Scrum Master, architects, and tech leads to ensure solutions will deliver the business vision.
Monitor execution progress including identification and escalation of risks, issues, and sources of conflict opportunities and implications.
Qualifications
5+ years of insurance experience required; preferable 3+ years of commercial insurance experience.
Knowledgeable of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.
Empowered to make decisions regarding scope, priority, and release plan.
Representative of stakeholders and customers to the development team.
Fully engaged and committed to delivering outcomes.
Authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship (the company will not support STEM OPT I‑983).
Agile/Product Owner expertise including Jira or Rally preferred but not required.
Proficient with MS Office preferred.
Strong influencing skills with ability to collaborate and build relationships.
Ability to manage multiple projects/work‑streams.
This role will have a hybrid work arrangement, with expectation of working in one office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is $100,000 – $150,000. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors such as performance, proficiency, and demonstration of required competencies. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives, and on‑the‑spot recognition.
