2nd Shift Quality Lab Technician II
Position: Quality Lab Technician II, 2nd Shift at Howmet Aerospace – Los Angeles (Torrance, CA). This role involves performing metallurgical and mechanical testing on fabricated products, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards and NADCAP accreditation requirements.
Responsibilities
Perform complex or unusual tests as required to a metallurgical evaluation. Use and be proficient in instrumentation and control systems, including static and dynamic strain measurement, temperature control and measurement, atmospheric effects, hardness machine, load cells, tensile, X‑ray plating, hydrogen determination, fatigue, stress rupture, etc.
Troubleshoot faulty equipment and investigate suspect test data, conducting hardness and tensile strength correlation studies, etc.
Conduct all types of mechanical testing, calculate, conduct, and report test results, performing special testing procedures and programs as required, such as investigating/verifying customer returns.
Make recommendations to the Lab Supervisor on improving equipment and test techniques.
Conduct a quarterly test fixture inventory and prepare orders for new tooling or replacement tooling as necessary.
Provide technical guidance for laboratory technicians less familiar with equipment and procedures.
Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
Record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum +2 years of laboratory experience in mechanical or metallurgical testing.
Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This position entails access to export‑controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications
Tensile testing of fasteners.
Rockwell Hardness testing of fasteners.
Metallurgical sample preparation/inspection experience.
Can interface with auditors and customer representatives.
