Position Summary
This position is responsible for analyzing and developing BES (Bulk Electric System) Transmission expansion projects as well as ensuring the implementation of Transmission Planning activities in accordance with FERC, NERC and regional planning requirements. The successful candidate for this role is expected to develop the skills to manage work in areas specific to area planning, FERC/NERC compliance (i.e., Order 881, Order 1000, TPL-001, FAC-008), coordination with Florida utility peers through the regional planning organization and assisting major Transmission expansion projects. Employees at this level solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general to limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer at this level effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. Responsibilities
Develop the skills needed to perform steady state analysis of the Duke Energy Florida transmission system to verify reliability requirements are met and identify needed system improvements Develop the skills needed to perform maintenance/updates of electric system models utilizing PSSE software Work with various project teams to develop solutions for electric transmission system improvements Support Economic Development and other company goals with transmission planning studies and developing transmission solutions Ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and maintain documentation of compliance activities Participate on inter-utility system working groups and perform related studies Provide technical support to other areas of Transmission and the company on transmission planning related issues Support the company's goals and represent the company in a positive professional manner at regional reliability team meetings Coordinate the thorough and accurate preparation of electrical diagrams, technical reports, correspondence, and documentation Basic Qualifications
Engineer II Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program In addition to required degree, two (2) or more years related work experience Engineer III Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program In addition to required degree, four (4) or more years related work experience Additional Preferred Qualifications
Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Programming experience in areas such as Python, batch files, Visual Basic Competence in engineering theories and principles Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills Experience in the utility industry Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department. Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Experience with data visualization and analysis. Working Conditions
Hybrid work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility. Office Environment St. Pete FL ECC or Lake Mary FL Offices Some travel ( Onboarding requires employee to be onsite, then schedule is hybrid, typically 2-3 days in the office and the remainder from home each week. Specific Requirements
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Support during emergency storm restoration, which could require extended hours working Travel Requirements
