Senior Laboratory Automation Engineer
to support orchestration, robotics, and workflow integration projects for leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients. This role combines hands-on system integration with software-driven orchestration—connecting lab instruments, scheduling software, and autonomous systems into cohesive automated workflows. This is a senior, client-facing technical role that requires broad experience in lab automation integration, orchestration, and robotics system design. Responsibilities
Configure and deploy lab orchestration platforms and associated scheduling or workflow software. Develop and test custom device drivers, APIs, and integration layers for laboratory instruments and robots. Integrate autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and lab instruments using modern communication protocols (REST, WebSocket, OPC-UA, TCP/IP). Build, document, and validate end-to-end automated workflows, including method logic, error handling, and recovery strategies. Collaborate with automation vendors, platform providers, and client engineering teams to deliver validated, production-ready systems. Maintain detailed project documentation, including design specifications, configuration records, and test reports. Support Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), training, and knowledge transfer. Troubleshoot integration issues and provide first-line technical support during deployment and stabilization phases. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers during project execution. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in lab automation, systems integration, or robotics (or equivalent demonstrated expertise). Hands-on experience with at least one orchestration/scheduling platform (e.g., Biosero Green Button Go™, Cellario, Momentum, or similar). Strong programming background in Python, C#, or JavaScript for device communication or workflow logic. Familiarity with robotic systems (AMRs, liquid handlers, analytical instruments) and standard communication protocols. Experience executing or supporting FAT/SAT or other formal validation processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and documentation quality. A DNA comprised of collaboration and teamwork. Desirable
Experience integrating data systems (LIMS/LIS/ELN) or middleware within R&D or manufacturing labs. Exposure to digital orchestration, AI-driven scheduling, or multi-robot coordination. Understanding of regulated environments (GMP, GxP, or ISO) and validation documentation standards. Familiarity with networking fundamentals and IT collaboration for automation environments.
