$94,000 - $104,000 (base)
Job Summary Responsible for the design, configuration, maintenance and renewal of automation, data collection, protection & control equipment subsystems on AVANGRID’s electric delivery infrastructure in New England (Central Maine Power, United Illuminating) and New York (NYSEG, RG&E). Engineering activities for electric transmission and substation protection projects to ensure safe, timely, and cost‑effective completion.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems for capital construction programs.
Review and approve detailed protection system designs, including settings, both internally and by consulting engineers.
Oversee engineering contractors providing automation engineering and design services to ensure compliance with company standards and contract requirements.
Analyze distribution fault event operations, produce clear fault analysis reports and recommend corrective actions.
Manage compliance programs for substation assets and serve as subject‑matter expert during audits.
Travel to worksites as needed.
Skills & Requirements
Theoretical and practical engineering knowledge in protection coordination, modeling, and calculation.
Experience with regulatory and compliance environments (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC, etc.).
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Electrical design experience and knowledge of power system protection theory and IEC‑61850 standards.
Education & Experience
4 years of engineering experience or 1 year in protection & control plus additional engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (MS preferred).
Fundamentals of Engineering exam completion preferred.
Knowledge of power system analysis, equipment protection, and standards such as IEC‑61850.
