Overview

Mechanical Engineer / Designer Position Summary: We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Designer to create detailed technical drawings for motors and related assemblies. This role converts engineering concepts into precise models, drawings, and specifications that guide manufacturing, assembly, and procurement. The position involves collaboration with design, systems, production, and quality engineers to optimize motor configurations while ensuring compliance with industry standards, military specifications, and internal procedures. Assignments and responsibilities will align with the candidate’s experience level. Qualifications

B.S. in Engineering preferred, or Associate’s Degree with extensive CAD and design experience (compensation based on education and/or experience)

5+ years’ experience as a mechanical engineer / designer

Strong PRO-E / CREO solid modeling experience and understanding of mechanical design principles

Knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, including sensors and control systems

Experience with Parametric / PTC Technology: Creo Elements/Pro 5.0 and Pro/Intralink 10.1

Proficient in mechanical design, material properties, fits & finishes, geometric tolerancing (GD&T)

Solid analytical skills to solve complex mechanical, static, and dynamic problems

Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

Advanced organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Knowledge of machining processes and manufacturing operations, including turn, mill, drill, bore, tap, EDM, 3D printing

Working knowledge of rotary and axial motion mechanisms, wiring, cabling, connectors, O-rings, gears, ballscrews, bearings, and other mechanical components

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Highly computer literate, including MS Office and applicable engineering software

Aerospace or defense experience desirable

Key Responsibilities

Conceptualize and design 3D parametric models of parts and assemblies with limited supervision

Prepare detailed 3D layouts, including fits, finishes, tolerances, and materials selection

Create fully annotated drawings from 3D models

Produce detailed manufacturing documentation in accordance with industry and company standards, including tolerance stack-ups

Interpret and apply design, drafting standards, military specifications, and internal procedures

Coordinate accurate creation of bills of material in the business system

Release drawings for production and development

Perform analysis and calculations: stress, bolt sizing, seat loading, preliminary weight, tolerance stack-ups, and part fits

Analyze designs and identify opportunities for improvements

Apply tolerances, datum selections, and GD&T to support manufacturability and inspection

Additional Responsibilities

Conduct research as needed

Complete initiatives and tasks efficiently through collaboration

Follow all safety, quality, and company policies

Foster a positive and cooperative work environment

Participate in team meetings and improvement programs

Assist in training personnel on technical tasks

Keep management informed of area activities and issues

Maintain a clean, secure, and organized work area

Complete special projects as assigned

Work Environment

Professional office, engineering lab, and manufacturing environments

Standard office equipment and lab/manufacturing tools required

Exposure to adhesives, chemicals, fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving machinery, noise, and vibration

Full-time, Monday – Thursday, 9-hour days, 4 hours Friday; overtime/weekend as needed

Occasional travel (~10%) for corporate, lab, supplier, and customer visits

Chaska, MN Pay Range:

$110,000 - $130,000/year Additional Information

Some positions require U.S. citizenship or applicable export licenses

Compensation is based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal consistency
