The Chemical Engineer II provides technical expertise to ensure the operation produces product that meets all quality, cost, and efficiency requirements to a 24/7 manufacturing facility. This role will identify ways to improve safety, quality, yields, and the capability of existing processes while also assisting in the scale up and implementation of developmental products/processes. Core challenges include leading continuous process improvement to drive Key Performance Indicators for the operation, to meet goals established by the business along with providing technical guidance to the operations team, and to assist with process troubleshooting along with developing corrective action plans.
Key Requirements:
Lead productivity projects yielding significant reductions in defects/costs and increased productivity. Maintain engineering documents and participate in PHAs that execute on recommendations to eliminate process safety hazards. Develop Pre-Feed/FEL-1 packages for capital projects. Work on projects that optimize energy consumption and could help in reducing expenses to operate in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Perform root cause analysis and implement process changes/control plans to drive continuous improvement. Utilize Six Sigma tools to drive process improvements. Identify process KPIs and work independently or on a team to reduce process variability and waste through process unit operations optimization. Work closely with other operational engineers to develop and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve OEE. Utilize MOC process to manage changes. Support operations in troubleshooting daily process issues as needed. Develop new SOPs or update existing ones as needed. MUST HAVE: Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. 2+ years of experience in manufacturing facility. Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization. WE VALUE: Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing preferred. Chemical, polymer, fiber manufacturing experience preferred. Experience with identifying process changes and recommendations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Hands-on experience supporting processes complying with OSHA Process Safety Management. Experience scoping projects with business level impact. Ability to work without guidance or supervision.
