Overview
Senior Civil and Drainage Engineer sought by WSP in the U.S. for our Texas markets (Houston, Austin, or Dallas). You will work with the Earth & Environment Team on projects across Texas and Louisiana, leading and contributing to site development, stormwater management, floodplain analyses and mapping, and related civil/drainage work for private, local, state, or federal clients. Responsibilities
Lead projects as Project Manager, coordinating a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants. Act as the project point of contact with clients, regulators, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines. Support projects as Senior Civil Project Engineer or other appropriate roles. Perform or supervise design and analysis for site, grading, utility, and drainage tasks. Oversee project management aspects including schedule, financial performance, quality control plans, and risk management. Provide construction services as requested, including construction site visits. Business Development and Leadership
Engage with clients to develop new business leads and pursue project opportunities. Lead proposal preparation and contract negotiations. Represent the firm in market activities and collaborate with local and national WSP experts to deliver innovative solutions. Mentor and develop team members; contribute to the growth of Civil and Drainage Engineering in the Texas/Louisiana region. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas. Minimum 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in civil and drainage engineering analysis and design, with substantial Texas experience. Proficiency in civil engineering principles for site civil and water resources projects, including analysis, design, permitting, and construction. Strong knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation; experience with surface water analysis, hydrologic methods/models, hydraulic models, and project-delivery software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, ArcGIS, Bluebeam). Working knowledge of 2D Hydraulic Analysis (HEC-RAS 2D) and floodplain risk mapping; familiarity with construction codes, agency coordination, and permitting (including CLOMR/LOMR). Project management experience including proposals, budgets, schedules, and subconsultant coordination; client development capabilities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; leadership, attention to detail, and ability to work in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and guide junior staff with QA/QC rigor; strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Willingness to travel as project needs require. Preferred Qualifications
