The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an

Electrician

to support our government customer located on the Summit of Haleakala in Maui, Hawai'i. Our Electrician performs a variety of electrical trade functions including the maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of equipment for the distribution and utilization of electrical energy.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains, repairs, installs, modifies, troubleshoots, loads, and tests electrical equipment and components including secondary distribution lines and circuits used to supply distribution panels, switch gear, power and control circuits, motors, multi-phase alternating current circuits, wiring systems, industrial complexes and buildings, high intensity lighting systems, and related equipment.

Writes up electrical evaluations and assessments as required. Must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, control diagrams, logic diagrams and specifications.

Supports other team members as required.

Inspects and maintains all required electrical PPE daily. Reports discrepancies to management in writing.

Identifies unsafe working conditions and work practices and reports to management in writing.

Assists in completion of facilities related projects and equipment and system repairs as required.

Assists in installation of new equipment and systems as required.

Assists in general cleaning of mechanical spaces and equipment as requested by management.

Performs infrared surveys/scans of electrical panels, switchboards, MCC panels, transformers, bus ducts, and related control panels and equipment as outlined in the Master Preventive Maintenance Plan and Schedule.

Inspects and maintains electrical distribution switchgear, panels, transformers, bus duct and other associated equipment within the facility.

Provides support service of transformers, bus duct system, and lighting control system.

Responds to all types of emergency situations, water, electrical, wind, storm, etc.

Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.

Assists in performing monthly safety inspections as required.

Plans and determines routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuit systems, equipment, and controls.

Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance/repair manuals.

Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and identifies defective components.

Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitters.

Checks pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers and recharges or replaces containers.

Locates and diagnoses trouble in electrical systems or equipment.

Works standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.

Utilizes conduit systems including PVC, flexible, rigid, and electrical metallic tubing.

Assists other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.

Must be available and able to respond to emergency call-ins when required.

Must participate in an annual medical evaluation and meet medical requirements to wear negative pressure respirators and perform the physical requirements of the job.

Must pass the required negative pressure respirator fit test and maintain the requirement.

Must be physically able to climb ladders of various types and maneuver on raised walkways and platforms with limited access.

Performs related work as assigned.

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; tasting or smelling; and working on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and heavier with assistance.

Office conditions are varied and may include indoor and outdoor environments with heat, cold, humidity, dampness, electrical energy, dust, fumes, solvents, grease, oils, moving machinery, moving objects or vehicles, and slippery or uneven surfaces. Work from ground level, ladders, and platforms where parts are hard-to-reach. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally more. Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing may be necessary.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid electrical journeyman's or Master Electrician license in the state of employment.

Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of related experience supporting a military base or civilian installation.

Ability to speak, read, and comprehend English.

Knowledge of common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.

Skill in the use of hand and power tools used in the construction trade.

Ability to understand and follow directions.

Ability to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.

Ability to complete work timely and accurately.

Problem solving skills.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Working knowledge of solid-state and conventional control circuitry.

General knowledge of other maintenance and construction trades.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
