ERS Test Engineer

Job Summary At GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU), we're pushing the limits of Energy Recovery Systems (ERS) in Formula 1. As an ERS Test Engineer, you'll be the driving force behind our powertrain performance, ensuring our cars harness every joule of energy to dominate the track.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute vibration testing procedures for ERS components including motor, inverter, and battery
Instrument and set up ERS elements for testing on shakers, dynos, and rigs
Analyze test data to verify system performance and reliability targets
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on acceptance testing procedures and equipment
Investigate vibration-related issues in ERS components and provide feedback for improvements
Maintain laboratory equipment and testing software for reliable results
Support development of safety procedures for ERS testing
Contribute to risk assessments and ensure high H&S standards
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience in motorsports industry, OR
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 1+ years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience with dyno, HIL, SIL, DIL, and other test equipment utilized in high-performance engineering environments with demanding requirements and real-time engineering improvements
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of ERS components and their integration in Formula 1 powertrains
Proficiency in test equipment operation and data acquisition systems
Experience with vibration analysis and testing methodologies
Knowledge of electrical subsystem and system level testing
Familiarity with test automation and common programming languages (e.g., LabVIEW, Python)
Experience with Formula 1 or high-performance motorsport testing
Familiarity with FIA regulations regarding energy recovery systems
Knowledge of advanced signal processing and analysis techniques
