Electrical Project Engineer
role at
Gerdau North America . Seeking experienced Engineer III or IV, with extensive hands-on skills in implementing mechanical, electrical or automation projects. The candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and will work closely with operational units in a steel mill environment. The position includes developing and managing capital expense projects (CAPEX) from inception to completion, supporting process optimization, and leading or participating in team-based work groups. Strong safety, leadership, communications, data collection and presentation skills are required. Gerdau Long Steel North America oversees mini-mill production and steel recycling with a broad product mix for the U.S. and Canada. Gerdau Special Steel North America produces engineered steel bars with facilities across the Midwest and Southeast U.S. The group serves the automotive and heavy truck industries with engineered SBQ bars and related products.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for operations and work with leaders on operational improvements Troubleshoot existing equipment and processes; participate in improvement activities Coordinate schedules during outage periods; participate in safety teams and implement best practices Assist with annual action planning Project Planning: define information for projects, prepare technical studies for CAPEX, scope and implementation planning, scheduling, and cost/benefit analysis Preliminary studies for project planning; submit selected project plans for investment approval; manage drawing and document control; project closure Project Implementation: own scope, schedule and budget; design equipment/facilities/processes; prepare technical bid packages; select equipment and construction partners; coordinate with procurement Work with operations to modify processes; install and commission equipment and utilities; verify project function, quality and benefits; finalize documentation Capex Portfolio Planning: coordinate with operations on project needs, prioritize by criticality and benefits, investigate new technologies, align with annual plans, and prepare multi-year CAPEX plans
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent 5-8 years of industrial, hands-on experience; project management skills for complex projects PMP certification (optional) Specialist in at least one engineering field; basic AutoCAD and layout skills Knowledge of industrial safety and construction methods; proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office
General
Domestic and overseas travel may be required. Travel frequency and duration depend on project requirements. Extended hours may be required during travel and critical project phases.
