The Recreation & Community Services Department is searching for a recreation professional to join the team as a Senior Recreation/Community Services Supervisor. The Senior Recreation/Community Services Supervisor is a front-line supervisory level position that develops and oversees a variety of citywide recreation and community services programs, activities, and events. In addition, this position coordinates and promotes cooperative efforts with community agencies, assists with budget preparation and participates in grant writing and other funding opportunities. Knowledge of development, coordination, and evaluation of recreation and community services programs. Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Outstanding interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with City staff across all agencies and departments. The essential functions typically performed by the

Senior Recreation/Community Services Supervisor

include the following: Develops, markets, evaluates, and oversees a variety of citywide recreation and community service programs, including facilities, youth and adult sports, tot programs, senior activities, citywide special events, and contract classes/instructional programs. Recommends, develops, and implements programs based on evaluation and measurement criteria, needs assessments, and community trends; estimates required resources; and finalizes and presents recommendations for new programs. Supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff, including employee selection, work assignment, performance evaluation, employee development, disciplinary action, and complaint resolution. Monitors, evaluates, develops, and enforces administrative systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient service delivery and effective workload management. Establishes, fosters, and maintains relationships with community groups. Assists with monitoring budget expenditure and revenues; participates in budget preparation, review, and data compilation. Assists with grant application preparation; researches and recommends alternative revenue sources. Maintains knowledge of current trends, legislation, and best practices in the recreation and community services field; evaluates their impact on departmental operations and recommends policy and procedural changes. May oversee a community facility providing multiple recreation and community service programs and activities. May review and authorize facility and/or field reservations and scheduling; applies usage rates and charges. Job responsibilities may require travel. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

Education : Equivalent to an associate’s degree in recreation, physical education, public administration, or a related field. Experience : Five (5) years of experience in coordinating recreation and community services programs, including supervision of recreation staff. Licenses : Valid Class C California driver’s license at time of appointment. Acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment. Certificates : Ability to obtain valid American Red Cross certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator within the first six (6) months of employment. Special Requirements : Ability to work flexible and weekend hours as needed. Desirable

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish. Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Human Services, Public Administration or a related field. Experience using Microsoft Office 365 and recreation software programs, preferably CivicRec, and other related database applications.
