Overview

Our Nuclear Programs and Consulting is a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, delivering safe and innovative solutions at complex nuclear cleanup and production sites. Our services include program management, decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste and nuclear material management, nuclear operations, consulting, and engineering and construction. We’re looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to be Engineer of Record for design projects, leading design teams, developing design calculations using standard and advanced analysis (FEA) techniques, developing drawings, and developing specifications for structures made of steel, concrete, and masonry with emphasis on seismic design. This role is based in Oak Ridge, TN with some travel.

Responsibilities

Serve as Engineer of Record for design projects. Lead design teams and coordinate multi-disciplinary efforts. Develop design calculations using standard and advanced analysis (FEA) techniques. Develop drawings and technical specifications for structural systems (steel, concrete, masonry) with emphasis on seismic design. Interface directly with client counterparts, both virtually and on-site, to develop best solutions for assigned projects. Integrate with other design disciplines and project functions such as Mechanical, Electrical, Architecture, Contracts, Document Control, Project Controls, and Construction. Estimate, schedule, and track assigned projects for schedule and cost performance. Follow and implement established quality procedures to ensure procedural compliance. Work within NQA-1 requirements and relevant DOE/NRC standards and regulatory frameworks. Apply knowledge of soil-structure interaction and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis in structural design. Utilize advanced software tools (e.g., STAAD.Pro or equivalent) and MathCAD for analysis and documentation. Support field activities and travel as required. Qualifications

Sole US citizenship required (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations). Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance. B.S. in Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program. 10+ years of post-education experience. Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required, with ability to obtain a state license as required. Experience performing Engineer of Record duties and full documentation of structural systems. Strong interfacing with clients and cross-disciplinary teams. Knowledge of DOE, NRC, and Nuclear standards (DOE-1020, NRC regulatory framework, etc.). Knowledge of DOE CD design process and commercial industry charrette process. Understanding of soil-structure interaction and seismic hazard analysis in design. Expert knowledge of steel, concrete, and masonry with emphasis on seismic design. Experience implementing multiple years of national codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7). Ability to follow and implement established quality procedures and ensure procedural compliance. Experience working within NQA-1. Expert in finite element software (e.g., STAAD.Pro or equivalent) and Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Outlook, Project, Word, Excel). Expert in MathCAD (or equivalent). Residence within commutable distance from Oak Ridge, TN office. Preferred Qualifications

Competent using Revit, AutoCAD, or MicroStation. Field experience as Resident Engineer, Field Engineer, or Quality Control Engineer. Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. DOE Q clearance and DOE experience. Experience conducting commercial-grade dedications for NQA-1 programs. NCEES Record. Essential Functions

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies and drawings. Longest distance carried: 50 feet. Hand manipulation required for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. May use both hands. Occasional reaching above and below shoulder level for supplies. No foot controls necessary. Work may be in the field near construction equipment or hazardous equipment and machinery; possible travel; uneven surfaces; exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, temperature or humidity extremes; and work at heights.
