Senior Office Engineer - Transit and Rail (New Rochelle, NY)
What You Will Do GFT is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Office Engineer – Rail Infrastructure to join our Construction Services team in New Rochelle, NY to work on a critical megaproject serving the region. We oversee every construction phase to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. What You’ll Be Challenged To Do As a Senior Office Engineer, you will contribute to a major rail infrastructure project that is improving commutes, expanding rail capacity, and modernizing service in the region. You’ll coordinate with design, inspection, and construction teams to keep complex documentation organized, support contract administration, and help ensure technical accuracy across all project phases. This role offers opportunities to solve field challenges, maintain compliance and quality standards, and strengthen the transportation network that connects communities. Responsibilities Maintain and control project documentation (drawings, submittals, RFIs, correspondence, change orders) to ensure traceability, compliance, and audit readiness Coordinate with design, inspection, construction, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and interface conflicts Review daily field reports, quantity logs, and inspection records; perform validations and cross checks Assist in preparing and updating project schedules, forecasts, and budget tracking Support the Resident Engineer in contract administration tasks: change orders, payment processing, material acceptance Produce meeting minutes, progress reports, and project logs; track action items and deliverables Assign and coordinate tasks with junior engineers, technicians, or administrative staff Support QA/QC and verification of construction compliance with design and standards Collaborate with third-party testing labs, material suppliers, and third-party stakeholders (agencies, utilities) Attend project meetings with the client, agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders; present technical updates Education & Experience High school Diploma 10 years of experience in construction on large projects, including a minimum of 3 years with Amtrak or other railroads Experience working on federally and/or state-funded transit or rail projects, with familiarity of funding, reporting, and compliance requirements Proficiency with document management, scheduling (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project), and construction management software Experience managing submittals, RFIs, correspondence logs, daily reports, and change order workflows Strong working knowledge of QA/QC procedures, material testing, inspections, and acceptance criteria Ability to review design drawings and specifications to identify constructability conflicts or discrepancies Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly to various audiences Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple deliverables and priorities Preferred Education Bachelor's degree Compensation The salary range for this role is
$115,000 - $135,000 per year . Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
